Actor Fahadh Faasil has officially confirmed that he will be playing the antagonist in the upcoming Malayalam thriller Patriot, starring industry legends Mohanlal and Mammootty. The revelation was made during a recent public event, instantly boosting excitement around the film, which is directed by Mahesh Narayanan. Patriot is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 23 and is already being positioned as one of the most ambitious Malayalam films in recent times.
Speaking candidly, Fahadh Faasil stated that he portrays the negative character in Patriot, adding another powerful role to his versatile filmography. His announcement created strong buzz among fans, especially given the presence of two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest icons in the same project. During the interaction, the actor also confirmed that a sequel to his hit film Aavesham is in the pipeline, tentatively expected to begin production around 2027 or 2028.
The makers of Patriot recently confirmed that Mohanlal has completed dubbing for his role. Sharing a video on the film’s official social media handle, the team highlighted the significance of his voice and screen presence, reinforcing the film’s intense tone. Earlier in January, the production team announced the completion of shooting with a post that reflected the scale and effort behind the project, accompanied by behind-the-scenes footage featuring the cast.
The ensemble cast of Patriot further adds to its appeal, with key roles played by Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Revathy. The teaser, released last year, offered a glimpse into the film’s layered narrative, political undertones, and high-stakes drama. Opening with references to power, trust, and influence, the teaser hints at a nation shaped by a few dominant forces. Dialogues referencing surveillance, social scoring, and control suggest a storyline rooted in contemporary concerns.
The teaser features Mammootty questioning a nationwide social score system, while Mohanlal appears as an army general asserting authority and dominance. Nayanthara’s character raises concerns about a student laptop surveillance program, escalating the tension further. The teaser culminates with a provocative question that frames the film’s central conflict, challenging viewers to decide who is a traitor and who is a patriot.
With Fahadh Faasil confirmed as the antagonist and a powerhouse cast backing the narrative, Patriot has quickly become one of the most anticipated Malayalam releases. Backed by strong performances, a socially relevant theme, and an experienced director, the film is expected to draw significant attention both domestically and internationally upon its release.
