Vijay's Jana Nayagan Eyes June 2026 Release Amid Certification Delay – Here's What We Know
Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has faced significant delays, leaving fans and industry insiders in suspense about its release. Originally scheduled for a January 9, 2026, release, the film’s progress has been stalled due to pending Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) approval. Now, in an effort to meet a fresh target, the makers are eyeing a June 2026 release.
Reports suggest that the tentative release date for Jana Nayagan is set for June 18, 2026, strategically close to Vijay's birthday on June 22 and coinciding with the Muharram holiday period. This timing could offer the film an extended weekend, benefiting its box-office prospects. However, the release date is still subject to the completion of certification formalities, which have caused significant delays.
Industry sources have indicated that the film's review process is yet to begin. The CBFC's newly-appointed committee has not started the re-censorship of the film, and there has been no official communication from the regulatory body to the film's production house, KVN Productions. This lack of certification has prevented the film's makers from finalizing the release date, leaving distributors and exhibitors in limbo.
If the June release does not materialize, reports suggest that the makers may explore an earlier summer release window. As of now, June remains the preferred option, provided the necessary certification hurdles are cleared in time.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is positioned as Vijay’s farewell film before his full-time political plunge. The movie also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani in pivotal roles. Despite the delays, the film remains one of the most talked-about Tamil films of 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting its release. However, as of now, the official release schedule remains uncertain, and the filmmakers are continuing internal discussions regarding the final timeline.
