As The Devil Wears Prada franchise teases the possibility of a third film, the cast has revealed two crucial conditions for their return. In an exclusive interview with People, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt expressed their interest in reuniting for The Devil Wears Prada 3, but only if the script and key members of the cast are in place.
The trio agreed that the film would have to offer a compelling script to draw them back to their iconic roles. Streep, 76, responded quickly, stating, “The script,” while Blunt, 43, added, “A good script. It’s all about the script.” Hathaway, 43, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that "everybody has to say yes."
Blunt, who plays Emily Charlton in the franchise, further stated that the return of "the core four" — Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who played Nigel in the original film — is essential for the sequel. Streep humorously added, “They have to be alive,” referring to the need for all the key actors to return.
The actors also reflected on their return to the franchise after nearly two decades. Hathaway revealed that revisiting her role as Andy Sachs made her reflect on the significant personal growth she had experienced since the first film. “I was just a 22-year-old mess,” she shared, adding that she was now in a much more stable phase of her life, having found love and started a family.
Streep, on the other hand, found the experience of revisiting Miranda Priestly “kind of easy” and enjoyed discovering the character again. Blunt, who portrays the eccentric Emily, expressed how deeply connected actors become to their roles and how much fun it was to revisit hers.
The sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is already in theaters and reunites the original lead cast along with new additions such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu. Fans of the first film will also see familiar faces like Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman in the sequel.
The long-awaited The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a major hit at the box office, and the hope for a third film continues to stir excitement among fans. However, it all depends on the development of the script and the involvement of the original cast, especially Stanley Tucci. Fans are eagerly awaiting the future of the beloved fashion franchise.
