Despite massive anticipation surrounding Kalki 2, uncertainty over Prabhas’ shooting schedules and the film’s lengthy post-production process is raising doubts about a 2027 release.
Even though sequels usually lose momentum when there is a long gap after the first installment, Kalki 2 continues to enjoy huge buzz among audiences. Director Nag Ashwin created a strong emotional connection with Kalki 2898 AD, making fans eagerly wait for the sequel despite the lack of official updates. The excitement surrounding the film is also driven by its massive star cast featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone.
Currently, Nag Ashwin is reportedly busy shooting important scenes involving Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. However, Prabhas is yet to join the sets as he remains occupied with his other pan-India films, including Fauzi and Spirit. Industry reports suggest that the makers are targeting a December 2027 release for Kalki 2, with plans to complete major shooting portions by June next year before moving into an extensive post-production phase.
However, trade circles believe that releasing Kalki 2 in December 2027 may be difficult at this stage. Since Prabhas has not yet started filming his portions and several important sequences are still pending, the makers may require much more time to complete the project smoothly. Considering the film’s large-scale world-building, VFX-heavy production, and lengthy post-production requirements, Nag Ashwin is unlikely to rush the process just to meet a release deadline. As of now, the chances of Kalki 2 hitting theatres in 2027 appear uncertain.
