Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi faces CBFC delay before release

Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi has reportedly faced another setback as its censor clearance is said to have been put on hold by the Central Board of Film Certification. The makers have not issued an official statement on the matter yet, but the development has increased suspense around the film’s release plans.

The film, which was earlier titled Battle of Galwan, was initially expected to release in April this year. However, the release was postponed, and no fresh date has been formally announced by the production team so far. Reports had earlier suggested that the film could arrive in theatres around the Independence Day weekend in August, but the latest certification delay may further affect those plans.

CBFC clearance reportedly on hold

According to reports, the CBFC has withheld the clearance certificate for Maatrubhumi until further notice. The exact reason behind the reported delay has not been officially confirmed. Earlier, there were also claims that portions of the film were being reshot after the makers were allegedly advised not to use the word “China” in the film. However, those reports too remain unconfirmed by the team.

The film has already seen multiple changes during its road to release. Apart from the postponement, the project also underwent a title change from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. The new title created discussion among Salman Khan fans, especially because the earlier title directly referred to the Galwan conflict.

Director Apoorva Lakhia had previously explained that the title change was not a sudden decision. He said the makers had registered both Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi from the beginning. According to him, the team eventually felt that the film was not only about a battle but also about humanity, empathy and the emotional struggles faced by soldiers.

Release date suspense grows

Maatrubhumi also stars Chitrangada Singh in a key role. The film has remained in the news due to its patriotic theme, title change, music release and Salman Khan’s strong screen presence. The song Main Hoon, featuring Salman and Chitrangada, was earlier released in a black-and-white version and focused on love, separation and sacrifice.

The original version of the track highlighted the emotional journey of a soldier’s family and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers and their loved ones. The makers have positioned the film as an emotional story built around duty, conflict and the human cost of war.

With the CBFC certificate reportedly still pending, fans are now waiting for an official update from the makers. Until the certification issue is resolved, the release date of Maatrubhumi is likely to remain uncertain. The film’s final theatrical schedule will depend on when the clearance is granted and whether the producers choose to retain the expected August window or move to a later date.
