The Odyssey Eyes $100 Million Opening Weekend

The Odyssey Eyes $100 Million Opening Weekend

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is projected to collect $90 million to $100 million during its North American opening weekend. Universal will release the IMAX epic in about 3,900 theatres on July 17, led by Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway.

The Odyssey Targets $100 Million Opening Weekend

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is preparing for a major theatrical launch, with early box-office tracking projecting a North American opening weekend between $90 million and $100 million.

Universal Pictures is expected to distribute the historical adventure across approximately 3,900 theatres in North America. Reaching the upper end of the forecast would give Nolan one of the strongest opening weekends of his career and confirm the intense audience interest surrounding the film.

The estimate refers to earnings across the film’s first weekend and should not be presented as a first-day collection prediction. Box-office projections can also change based on preview collections, audience reactions, premium-format demand and walk-in ticket sales.

Universal Confirms July 17 Worldwide Release

The Odyssey will open in theatres on Friday, July 17, 2026. The official film website confirms the release date and states that the production was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras, strengthening its appeal among viewers seeking a premium large-screen experience.

The film adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows Odysseus on his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon leads the cast as the legendary king, while Anne Hathaway portrays Penelope and Tom Holland plays their son, Telemachus.

The large-scale production combines mythological creatures, warfare, survival and family drama. Early critical responses have highlighted the film’s visual ambition and psychological treatment of Odysseus’ long and difficult return home.

Nolan and Cast Promote Film in Mumbai

According to the original report, Nolan visited Mumbai with producer Emma Thomas and actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland as part of the film’s promotional campaign. The team reportedly attended an Indian premiere on July 10, followed by a media event on July 11.

Nolan praised the enthusiasm and cinema knowledge of Indian audiences during the visit. The Mumbai events also reflected the growing commercial importance of India for major Hollywood releases, particularly films designed for IMAX and other premium formats.

The filmmaker’s popularity in India has grown through titles including The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet and Oppenheimer. That established fan base is expected to support The Odyssey across major Indian cities.

Star-Studded Cast Drives Global Interest

The Odyssey features an extensive ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron. Christopher Nolan wrote and directed the film, while Emma Thomas produced it with him. The story centres on Odysseus’ decade-long struggle to return to Ithaca, where Penelope and Telemachus face growing pressure from men seeking to take control of his kingdom.

Strong advance interest, the film’s IMAX presentation and Nolan’s worldwide reputation are driving the optimistic box-office outlook. However, the final opening will depend on audience word of mouth and ticket sales after previews begin. With a projected $90 million to $100 million North American weekend, The Odyssey is positioned to deliver one of the biggest Hollywood openings of 2026 and another major theatrical success for Nolan and Universal Pictures.
