Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana is reportedly targeting a massive 50,000-screen global rollout, potentially setting a new benchmark for an Indian film. Sony Pictures will lead the global distribution as Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic prepares for its Diwali 2026 launch.
Ramayana Targets Massive 50,000-Screen Worldwide Rollout
Namit Malhotra’s ambitious Ramayana is preparing for what could become one of the widest theatrical launches ever mounted for an Indian film, with industry reports claiming the epic is targeting more than 50,000 screens worldwide.
The enormous rollout reflects the makers’ intention to position Ramayana as a genuinely global theatrical event rather than limiting it to traditional Indian and diaspora markets. Sony Pictures has officially come on board to handle the film’s international distribution, strengthening its access to theatres across major global territories.
While the 50,000-screen figure is being widely reported in Indian entertainment media, the final worldwide screen count will become clearer closer to release. Sony’s involvement, however, has been officially confirmed, with the film planned for international release in multiple language versions.
Ramayana Brings Together Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey appears as Lakshmana in the large ensemble cast.
The two-part adaptation is being produced by Prime Focus Studios and DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The filmmakers have repeatedly described the project as an attempt to bring the Indian epic to audiences across the world using large-scale filmmaking and cutting-edge visual technology.
DNEG and ReDefine are involved in the film’s visual effects, with the production designed to combine Indian mythology with the scale associated with major international fantasy spectacles.
Ramayana Music Unites Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman
Another major attraction is the collaboration between Academy Award-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The project marks their first collaboration, adding significant international attention to the film’s music and background score.
The recently released trailer has further strengthened interest in the project. Released across five Indian languages, it offered audiences a larger glimpse of the film’s characters, battle sequences and visual world.
DNEG has confirmed that Sony Pictures will release the film globally, while Dharma Productions is handling distribution across North India’s Hindi-speaking markets.
Ramayana Sets November Global and India Release Dates
Ramayana: Part One will follow an unusual staggered release strategy. Producer Namit Malhotra has confirmed that international audiences will get the film on Friday, November 6, 2026, while its Indian theatrical release is planned for Sunday, November 8, coinciding with Diwali.
The second instalment is planned for 2027, continuing the story as part of the filmmakers’ two-part cinematic adaptation. DNEG had earlier confirmed that Part One would arrive in 2026 and Part Two would follow in 2027.
If the reported 50,000-screen target is achieved, Ramayana would significantly expand the theatrical footprint traditionally associated with Indian films. With Sony Pictures driving its international distribution, DNEG powering its visual spectacle and a major cast led by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the film is being positioned as one of Indian cinema’s biggest attempts to reach a mainstream global audience.
