Angelina Jolie has secured a significant legal win in her ongoing dispute with ex-husband Brad Pitt over the French winery, Chateau Miraval. The case dates back to 2022, when Pitt filed a lawsuit alleging that Jolie sold her stake in the winery without his consent, disrupting operations at the estate. In a recent ruling, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ruled that Jolie does not have to disclose a set of private e-mails related to the sale of her stake.
Brad Pitt’s legal team had sought to access 22 e-mails, but the court determined that these communications are protected under legal privilege. The judge found that Pitt did not meet the burden of proof necessary to override Jolie’s claim that the emails contained elements of legal strategy and are exempt from disclosure. This decision marks a legal advantage for Jolie, although the judge’s ruling was made without prejudice, leaving the door open for Pitt to raise the issue again later in the case.
The dispute over Chateau Miraval is part of a long-running legal battle between the two actors, who once co-owned the property and even married there. Despite this setback, the legal struggle is far from over. Jolie had previously sought sanctions against Pitt’s legal team, requesting nearly USD 34,000 for their attempts to force the release of the emails. However, this request was denied by the court.
This recent ruling follows a December 2025 decision where a judge initially directed Jolie to turn over the emails. That ruling was later reconsidered by a higher court, prompting the new decision. The legal battle is ongoing, and the trial is currently scheduled for February 1, 2027, though Jolie has requested to delay the trial until November 2027. The case remains a high-profile example of the complex legal issues involved in celebrity divorces and business disputes.
