Jailer 2’s Telugu theatrical rights are reportedly priced at Rs 55 crore plus GST, while an offer of around Rs 45 crore is under discussion.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is generating significant interest in film trade circles ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on October 15, 2026. The latest discussion centres on the price being sought for the film’s Telugu theatrical rights, which could make the sequel one of the year’s biggest distribution deals in the Telugu states.
According to industry reports, producer Sun Pictures has quoted approximately Rs 55 crore plus GST for the Telugu rights. Producer-distributor Naga Vamsi is reportedly among the interested buyers and is said to have offered around Rs 45 crore plus GST. The reported difference of nearly Rs 10 crore means negotiations may continue before a deal is finalised. Neither Sun Pictures nor the potential buyer has officially confirmed the quoted figures or announced the Telugu distribution partner.
Jailer 2 rights price draws Coolie comparison
The reported asking price has attracted attention because it is close to the amount paid for the Telugu theatrical rights of Rajinikanth’s Coolie. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial reportedly fetched around Rs 52 crore in the market.
Trade observers are therefore examining whether Jailer 2 can justify an even higher valuation. The sequel carries strong franchise recognition, but a deal of this size would require an impressive theatrical performance across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the distributor to recover the investment.
The comparison with Coolie also highlights the continuing commercial strength of Rajinikanth in the Telugu market. Even when individual films receive mixed responses or fall short of expectations, his projects continue to attract major offers because of their openings, wide audience reach and premium release potential. However, the final value of the rights could depend on the terms of the agreement, including distribution expenses, recovery structure, release scale and revenue-sharing conditions. Until the parties announce the deal, the figures remain trade estimates.
Jailer success drives demand for Rajinikanth sequel
The original Jailer is the biggest factor supporting the sequel’s reported valuation. The film became a major commercial success and performed strongly in the Telugu states, creating confidence that the second instalment could attract a sizeable opening. Director Nelson Dilipkumar’s combination of action, humour and Rajinikanth’s screen presence helped the first film connect with audiences. The sequel advantage gives Jailer 2 an established brand, reducing the challenge of introducing its world and characters to moviegoers.
At the same time, buyers must consider the risk attached to a high acquisition price. Franchise popularity can strengthen advance bookings, but long-term theatrical performance will depend on reviews, audience response, competition and the film’s ability to sustain momentum after its opening weekend. A Telugu rights deal above Rs 50 crore would place substantial pressure on the movie to deliver blockbuster-level revenues. That explains why the reported gap between the asking price and the offer remains a key point in the negotiations.
Jailer 2 cameo reports and release expectations
The production has also faced speculation surrounding delays, reshoots and casting decisions for an important cameo. Reports claimed that several stars were considered for the appearance before Hrithik Roshan was eventually associated with the role. The makers have not publicly confirmed every detail surrounding these reports.
Such speculation may have affected the film’s momentum temporarily, but the Jailer brand and Rajinikanth’s popularity continue to drive interest. Fresh promotional material and official casting announcements could further strengthen the campaign as the release approaches. Jailer 2 is currently scheduled to open in cinemas on October 15, 2026. With the release window drawing closer, attention will remain on the Telugu distribution agreement and whether Sun Pictures secures its reported asking price.
Once officially concluded, the deal could become one of the most closely watched theatrical-rights transactions in South Indian cinema. For now, the central question is whether a buyer will accept the commercial risk attached to a price approaching—or potentially exceeding—the amount paid for Coolie.
