Hanuman Ansh Telugu Release in Doubt Ahead of September 18

Hanuman Ansh Telugu Release in Doubt Ahead of September 18
Telugu Release Faces Distributor and Censor Uncertainty

Hanuman Ansh may be approaching the Rs 300 crore mark at the worldwide box office, but the film’s planned expansion into the Telugu market has run into last-minute uncertainty. The dubbed version is scheduled to arrive in cinemas across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on September 18, although several important release formalities reportedly remain incomplete.

Filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas was earlier associated with the Telugu version as its presenter through Fortune Four Cinemas. His involvement gave the release greater visibility and added confidence among exhibitors. However, industry sources have claimed that the proposed distribution arrangement did not move forward and that Trivikram is no longer presenting the film.

Neither the filmmaker nor the producers have officially confirmed his reported exit. If the original arrangement has ended, the makers will need another distribution partner capable of securing theatres and coordinating the release across the two Telugu states.

The film is also reportedly awaiting certification for its Telugu version. A theatrical release cannot proceed without the necessary censor clearance, making the limited time before September 18 a significant concern. The producers have not issued an official statement clarifying whether certification has been completed.

Promotions Stall Days Before September 18

The lack of promotional activity has added to speculation surrounding the release. A Telugu teaser was expected to be unveiled online on September 14, followed by a media event in Hyderabad on September 15. Neither event went ahead as announced, with the press interaction reportedly cancelled at the last minute.

A full Telugu trailer has also not been released. For a dubbed film entering a major regional market, trailers, interviews and local promotional events are essential for generating awareness. The absence of these activities only days before the proposed opening has raised doubts about whether the film will reach cinemas according to schedule.

Despite the uncertainty, the makers have not formally announced a postponement. Until they clarify the censor status, distribution arrangements and theatrical bookings, September 18 remains the announced release date rather than a confirmed rollout.

Telugu Market Presents a Different Audience Challenge

Hanuman Ansh reportedly centres on spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba, whose following is especially strong in northern India and among international devotees. Although devotional and spiritual films have traditionally attracted audiences in the Telugu states, the central figure may not have the same level of familiarity in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Hindi version is already being screened in parts of both states. Viewers interested in the film may therefore have watched it before the dubbed edition becomes available, potentially reducing demand for the Telugu release.

A strong localisation campaign could have helped introduce the story and its spiritual themes to Telugu-speaking audiences. With the trailer and promotional events missing, however, the film has had limited opportunity to develop that connection.

Hindi Box-Office Success May Be Hard to Repeat

The Hindi edition did not depend entirely on a huge opening. It reportedly grew gradually through positive audience reactions and sustained word of mouth, eventually becoming one of the year’s notable commercial successes.

Repeating that pattern in Telugu could prove difficult. A slow-building film requires continued theatre access, favourable show timings and enough time for recommendations to spread. Upcoming releases, including Nani’s The Paradise, could increase competition for screens and limit that opportunity.

For now, the key question is not whether Hanuman Ansh can reproduce its Hindi success, but whether its Telugu version can complete the required formalities in time. With no trailer, reported censor uncertainty and an unconfirmed change in distributor, the film’s September 18 opening remains under a cloud.
