R Madhavan's GDN Gets U/A Certificate Ahead of August Release

R Madhavan’s GDN has secured a U/A certificate with a runtime of two hours and 27 minutes. The GD Naidu biopic, featuring Sathyaraj, Priyamani and Jayaram, is scheduled to release worldwide on August 7, 2026.

GDN U/A Certificate Confirms Film Is Ready for Theatres

R Madhavan’s upcoming biographical drama GDN has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification ahead of its theatrical release. The certification was issued through the CBFC Regional Office in Thiruvananthapuram.

The makers marked the announcement with a new poster built around a suitcase, a visual that appears connected to the travels and ambitions of inventor GD Naidu. The film has attracted attention for placing one of India’s lesser-known industrial pioneers at the centre of a period drama.

GDN Runtime Set at Two Hours and 27 Minutes

The certified runtime of GDN is two hours and 27 minutes. Madhavan plays Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, the inventor, industrialist, agriculturist and entrepreneur popularly remembered as the “Edison of India.”

The story follows his rise from modest beginnings and explores the curiosity and determination that drove his experiments. It is expected to show how Naidu studied imported machines and adapted technology to make it practical and affordable for Indian consumers.

GDN Release Date Moved to August 7

GDN is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on Friday, August 7, 2026. The biopic was previously announced for July 17, but its theatrical arrival was later shifted.

Reports linked the postponement to release-planning considerations and the crowded Tamil cinema calendar. The revised date gives the makers more time to promote the film and introduce GD Naidu’s achievements to audiences unfamiliar with his role in India’s industrial and technological development.

The film is directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, who has written the screenplay with Madhavan. Varghese Moolan has produced the project in association with Tricolour Films, the production banner founded by Madhavan and Sarita Madhavan. Sathyaraj, Priyamani, Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan appear in important roles, strengthening the ensemble surrounding Madhavan’s portrayal of the celebrated inventor.

GDN Trailer Highlights Madhavan’s Transformation

The GDN trailer traces different stages of Naidu’s life while presenting Madhavan in multiple age transformations. Its period settings, machinery, costumes and industrial locations establish a story about invention, resistance and perseverance.

Sathyaraj also features prominently in the footage, while the supporting cast represents the personal and professional relationships that shaped Naidu’s journey. The trailer has generated interest in Madhavan’s physical transformation and the film’s recreation of an important period in India’s industrial history.

The film arrives as Indian cinema continues to revisit scientists, entrepreneurs and overlooked historical personalities through biographical storytelling. By highlighting GD Naidu’s experiments and contribution to engineering, GDN may introduce younger viewers to an innovator whose work influenced manufacturing, transport, agriculture and technical education. With its U/A certification secured, the film is now moving closer to its worldwide theatrical release on August 7.
