Vrusshabha : Latest Malayalam Movie Review

Vrusshabha : Latest Malayalam Movie Review

Plot

Aadi Deva Varma, a successful businessman and devoted father, begins experiencing visions from a past life where he was King Vrusshabha. When his son Tej visits their ancestral village, he too starts seeing fragments of the same past. These visions reveal a generational curse tied to their reincarnated lives, threatening their present-day father–son bond. The story follows their attempt to understand these dreams and break the curse haunting them.

Overview

Directed by Nanda Kishore, Vrusshabha is a fantasy action drama that blends reincarnation, mythology, and family emotions. While the premise promises depth and grandeur, the film suffers from weak writing, poor execution, and technical shortcomings, making the experience feel far longer than its runtime.

Performances

  • Mohanlal delivers a competent performance but is clearly held back by uninspired material. As King Vrusshabha, he shows intensity in battle scenes, yet the character lacks emotional depth.
  • Samarjit Lankesh struggles with a poorly written role that swings between childish humour and forced emotion.
  • The supporting cast, including the female leads, remain underwritten and largely forgettable.

Technical Aspects

The film is marred by tacky visual effects and inconsistent production design. The fantasy portions lack scale and polish, reducing the impact of what should have been visually arresting sequences.

Music

The background score attempts to elevate dramatic moments but often feels generic. Songs and themes fail to leave a lasting impression or add emotional weight to the narrative.

Editing

Despite a runtime of just over two hours, the film feels exhausting. Loose editing, repetitive scenes, and unnecessary subplots stretch the narrative, making it feel far longer than it is.

Positives

  • Interesting core premise
  • Mohanlal’s screen presence
  • Father–son theme with emotional potential

Negatives

  • Weak screenplay and dialogues
  • Poor visual effects
  • Lack of emotional connect
  • Underdeveloped characters
  • Sluggish pacing

Analysis

Vrusshabha had the ingredients for a compelling reincarnation drama but fails to bring them together cohesively. The film cannot decide whether it wants to be a mythological fantasy or an emotional family drama, resulting in tonal confusion. Juvenile humour, shallow romance, and technical flaws dilute the impact, turning what could have been a powerful story into an uninspired experience.

Bottomline: Wasted Potential

Rating: 2.75 / 5
