Dhurandhar – The Revenge Review | Ranveer Singh’s Spy Thriller

Dhurandhar – The Revenge Review | Ranveer Singh’s Spy Thriller

Plot:

Dhurandhar – The Revenge picks up where the first part left off, following Jaskirat Singh Rangi (Ranveer Singh), an Indian spy who infiltrated the Baloch gang in Lyari under the alias Hamza Ali Mazari. The film delves into his backstory, his rise to the top of the gang after the death of Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), and the challenges he faces, including hiding his identity from his wife, Yalina Jamali (Sara Arjun), and Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal). The narrative explores Jaskirat’s mission, his emotional turmoil, and how intelligence from his operations contributed to India’s decision to demonetize in 2016.

Overview:

This sequel explores the life and challenges of Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari. With the death of his mentor, Rehman Dakait, he becomes the leader of the Baloch gang. The film covers his struggles to maintain his cover, the consequences of his actions, and his revenge mission. The film features high-octane action, emotional drama, and twists, including a revelation of Hamza’s true identity, which leads to thrilling confrontations with various characters.

Performances:

Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Jaskirat Singh Rangi is outstanding, balancing his spy role, emotional depth, and his dual identity. R. Madhavan shines in his role as Ajay Sanyal, with standout sequences that leave a lasting impact. Rakesh Bedi provides comic relief, while Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt continue to impress in their roles. Sara Arjun, though with a limited role, delivers well in crucial emotional moments. The ensemble cast, with over twenty crucial characters, all perform commendably.

Technical Aspects:

The film excels in technical departments, with brilliant music, sound design, action choreography, and cinematography. Shashwat Sachdev’s music is engaging, and the background score amplifies the intensity of key sequences. Cinematography by Vikash Nowlakha captures stunning visuals, while editing by Shivkumar V. Panicker ensures the film maintains its pace, especially in the latter half. Production values by Jio Studios and B62 Studios enhance the film’s grand visuals.

Music:

Shashwat Sachdev creates an equally compelling soundtrack for Dhurandhar: The Revenge as he did in the first part. His background score intensifies key moments, though the songs, while good, do not have the same impact as in the first film. The situational songs fit well into the narrative, but they don’t contribute as much to the emotional depth.

Editing:

Editing by Shivkumar V. Panicker is exceptional, ensuring that the film never dips in pace. The 4-hour runtime is divided into seven chapters, each unfolding various phases of the protagonist’s journey. Except for a couple of instances, the film maintains high engagement and quick pacing.

Positives:

  • Very Engaging Drama
  • Technical Brilliance
  • Top-Notch Storytelling
  • Ranveer Singh’s Performance
  • Payoffs for Ajay Sanyal’s Character
  • Twist in the Climax
  • Music
  • Action Choreography

Negatives:

  • Excessive Bloodshed
  • Convenient Screenplay in Some Places

Analysis:

Dhurandhar – The Revenge is a technical and narrative triumph. The film’s conviction in storytelling is evident, with director Aditya Dhar weaving a complex, action-packed tale that blends emotional depth and high-stakes drama. The pacing is excellent, with a captivating climax and several adrenaline-pumping sequences. While the film has a few slow moments and overly convenient plot points, it’s a highly engaging film that works for both action and drama enthusiasts. The film’s extended runtime doesn’t feel cumbersome, and the payoff is worth it, especially in the latter half.

Bottomline: Thrilling Sequel

Rating: 3.5/5
