The Raja Saab: Latest Pan India Movie Review

Plot

The Raja Saab revolves around Raju, a young man who takes care of his grandmother Gangamma, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Though her memory fades, she remains emotionally connected to her late husband Kanakaraju, a former exorcist. Raju travels to Hyderabad to fulfill her last wish, only to discover that his grandfather is no longer alive but has returned as a powerful and dangerous spirit. As Raju uncovers Kanakaraju’s dark past driven by greed and ambition, he is forced into a psychological and supernatural confrontation that forms the emotional core of the story.

Overview

The Raja Saab is a horror-fantasy entertainer that blends comedy, emotion, and supernatural elements. Directed by Maruthi, the film attempts to present Prabhas in a lighter and humorous role after a series of intense action dramas. While the concept promises freshness, the execution struggles to maintain consistency across genres.

Performances
  • Prabhas delivers a relaxed and enjoyable performance, especially in comedy scenes. His timing is effective and reminds audiences of his earlier lighter roles. However, inconsistent costume styling slightly distracts.
  • Nidhhi Agerwal stands out among the three heroines as the main female lead. Malavika Mohanan and Riddhi Kumar have limited scope.
  • Sanjay Dutt commands strong screen presence but lacks character clarity. Zarina Wahab delivers an emotional performance as the grandmother, though her role deserved more depth. Boman Irani adds narrative value in a brief role. Supporting comedians fail to generate consistent humour.
Technical Aspects

Cinematography is visually rich but overly bright, reducing emotional impact. The CG work is inconsistent, with some sequences looking polished while others appear unfinished. The green matte usage in the climax funeral scene is noticeable and disappointing for a high-budget production. Production design adds scale, but visual continuity issues affect realism.

Music

Thaman’s background score supports key scenes, but sound clarity is poor in several places. Songs fail to leave a lasting impression, except for the track “Patience,” which stands out musically.

Editing

Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao’s editing could have been tighter. The 189-minute runtime feels stretched, especially in the second half. Several scenes could have been trimmed to improve pacing.

Positives

• Prabhas in a lighter role
• Emotional hospital scene
• Mind game sequence with Sanjay Dutt
• Grand production design
• Few effective horror moments

Negatives

• Weak screenplay execution
• Forced romantic subplots
• Inconsistent horror impact
• Overlong runtime
• Poor CG in key scenes
• Comedy rarely works

Analysis

Maruthi deserves appreciation for attempting to showcase Prabhas in a fun and relaxed avatar. However, the film lacks psychological depth required for a horror-fantasy. Promising ideas remain underdeveloped due to weak writing and pacing issues. The final act feels confused, and the removal of Prabhas’s old-man look reduces narrative impact. Though visually ambitious, the film fails to deliver emotional or thrilling consistency.

Bottomline: Mixed verdict

Rating: 2.5 / 5
