Raakaasa | Latest Telugu Movie Review

Raakaasa | Latest Telugu Movie Review

Plot:

Veeru, also known as Eera Babu, returns from the USA to his native village hoping to marry his childhood sweetheart. But his plans collapse when he discovers she is already engaged to someone else. Devastated, Veeru gets drunk and unknowingly spends a night near an abandoned fort rumored to be haunted. What begins as a random incident soon pulls him into a deeper mystery involving the fort, its hidden past, and a supernatural presence that changes his life.

Overview:

Raakaasa, directed by Manasa Sharma, is a fantasy-comedy that tries to mix village superstition, mystery, and humor. While the concept has scope for originality, the film relies heavily on familiar storytelling patterns. Despite an interesting premise, the narrative sticks to a safe and predictable path rather than exploring new ground.

Performances:

Sangeeth Sobhan stands out as the biggest strength of the film. His comic timing feels natural and his screen presence keeps the audience engaged, especially in the latter half. Nayan Sarika and Raadhya have limited roles and deliver passable performances. Getup Srinu and Vennela Kishore contribute with occasional humor, even though their characters feel exaggerated. Veteran actors like Tanikella Bharani and Ashish Vidyarthi add some seriousness but are not utilized effectively.

Technical Aspects:

Technically, the film is decent. The highlight is the art direction, especially the fort setup which looks realistic and adds depth to the story’s atmosphere. Cinematography in the second half captures the adventure portions well. Production quality is satisfactory, though the impact is reduced by the routine screenplay.

Music:

The music by Anudeep Dev is underwhelming. None of the songs leave a lasting impression, and the background score is overly loud in several scenes, which becomes distracting rather than supportive.

Editing:

Editing is adequate and keeps the film from dragging too much. However, the first half could have been trimmed further to improve engagement and avoid dull moments.

Positives:

  • Sangeeth Sobhan’s energetic performance
  • Some effective comedy scenes in the second half
  • Realistic fort set and good production design
  • Decent visuals in key sequences

Negatives:

  • Predictable and overused storyline
  • Slow and less engaging first half
  • Loud and inconsistent background score
  • Weak and underwhelming climax
  • Lack of innovative writing

Analysis:

Raakaasa starts with an interesting idea but fails to capitalize on it. The film offers a few enjoyable moments, mainly driven by comedy and the lead actor’s performance, but struggles to maintain consistency. The writing lacks freshness, and the emotional and supernatural elements don’t feel impactful enough. The decision to soften the antagonist in the climax further weakens the narrative. While it’s not entirely dull, the film never rises above being just average.

Bottomline: Predictable fun

Rating: 2.5/5
