AI Mode transforms Google Search experience with animated logo and new features

Google is continuing its rollout of AI Mode, introducing it to the public through a new animated Doodle and homepage update. The initiative, which was formally unveiled at I/O 2025, is now fully available in the United States and is being tested internationally, starting with India. AI Mode represents a shift in how users engage with search on both desktop and mobile, combining Google’s core strength in information retrieval with artificial intelligence capabilities designed to enhance and simplify the process.

Visitors to google.com in the US—regardless of whether they are signed in—will now see an interactive and visually engaging experience. The traditional Google homepage has been updated with a vibrant Doodle that features a bouncing animation. The animation shows the familiar letters of the Google logo gradually merging into the colorful gradient ‘G’ icon. The artwork, with its space-like gradient and abstract background, initially resembles something astronomical. This visual theme continues with a dark backdrop and colored dots that echo Google’s branding.

Upon tapping or clicking on the Doodle, users are taken to a dedicated “AI Mode” search results page, much like previous Doodle experiences. However, this time the page is enhanced with an AI Overview. This feature leverages generative AI to summarize relevant information, offering quick insights and suggestions. There is also a subtle gradient in the top-left corner of the search results page, reinforcing the AI theme visually.

Beneath the search bar on the Google homepage, there is now a promotional tagline reading, “Try AI Mode and search like never before.” This line occupies the same promotional real estate that Google has used in the past for marketing new devices, apps, or special features. Clicking the tagline redirects users to a dedicated landing page at google.com/aimode, where they can learn more about what AI Mode offers and how to use it.

On the Chrome New Tab page, across Android, iOS, and desktop, users will notice the gradient-style ‘G’ logo with Google’s classic red, yellow, green, and blue color dots. This consistent branding ties the visual and functional updates together. The static artwork reinforces the AI Mode brand identity, while also suggesting depth, intelligence, and a futuristic tone.

AI Mode is more than a visual refresh. It introduces real changes in how search results are presented and how users interact with them. The AI Overview feature suggests prompts based on a user's past searches and can present context-aware summaries, helping people find what they need faster. This capability is not limited to generic queries; over time, it will extend into personal content domains with user permission. Google has already shared plans to incorporate personal context, such as looking into Gmail for relevant information when requested by the user. This opens the door to more personalized, helpful search results.

Other upcoming features include the ability to speak directly with AI Mode through a feature called Search Live, which is currently in testing. A camera-based mode is also expected to follow, allowing visual interaction with AI. Google is exploring more agentic capabilities in the future—these include features that can actively assist users, like finding events, checking availability, and even purchasing tickets or making reservations based on user intent.

Meanwhile, Android 16 QPR1 Beta is redesigning parts of the Pixel Launcher to integrate AI Mode directly into the system search experience. These UI updates and deeper AI integration show that Google intends AI Mode to be a central part of the search and user experience across platforms.

As for now, Google’s homepage and Chrome welcome screens serve as the public introduction to this new direction. Users are being encouraged to experiment with AI Mode and experience how search can be more fluid, conversational, and insightful. With additional features being tested and rolled out, AI Mode is set to become a significant part of how people use Google every day.

Google’s push into AI-powered search experiences is not just about convenience—it reflects a broader vision to make information access more dynamic, predictive, and personalized. While the technology is still evolving, the current implementation of AI Mode is a substantial step in redefining what it means to “search” in a world increasingly powered by artificial intelligence.
