Ravichandran Ashwin and his Tamil Nadu Premier League franchise Dindigul Dragons have been officially cleared of ball-tampering allegations following a formal investigation by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). The accusations were initially made by Siechem Madurai Panthers after their nine-wicket defeat to the Dragons in a TNPL 2025 fixture on June 14 at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground.
The Madurai Panthers claimed that Dindigul players used chemically treated towels to alter the condition of the ball during the match. Panthers CEO Mahesh S raised concerns and demanded a formal investigation, alleging "blatant ball tampering." However, the TNCA’s inquiry found no supporting evidence for the accusations. The towels in question, which were reportedly used by both teams, were TNCA-issued and monitored under umpire supervision throughout the match.
According to TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan, all equipment was issued by the cricket board and used under the strict observation of match officials. "The Playing Control Team, including on-field umpires and the match referee, had full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No issues were flagged during the game, and no proof has been submitted to substantiate the claims," Kannan said in an official release.
A review committee was established to assess the matter but found the allegations speculative and unsupported by any photographic or video evidence. The governing body did allow the Panthers until 3 PM on June 17 to submit additional proof should it exist, but no follow-up request or evidence had been presented at the time of this update.
Ashwin, who captains the Dindigul Dragons, bowled four economical overs for 27 runs without picking up a wicket but made a decisive impact with the bat. He scored a quickfire 49 off 29 balls to help his team chase down the Panthers' total of 150 in just 12.3 overs. Partnering with opener Shivam Singh, Ashwin helped the defending champions notch their second win of the 2025 TNPL season.
