Hoboken PATH offers transit and ferry alternatives amid switch-related delays
Commuters traveling from Hoboken on the PATH system are facing continued delays this week due to switch issues currently under repair at the terminal. In response, alternate travel options including discounted ferry tickets and cross-honoring on select transit services are being offered through Friday night to help ease the commuting burden.

The ongoing switch problem has reduced train frequency during peak times. Normally, rush hour service from Hoboken to 33rd Street and the World Trade Center operates every eight minutes, but it is now reduced to every ten minutes while crews work to resolve the issue. While the delays may appear minimal, they have created noticeable inconveniences during busy travel periods.

To help alleviate these issues, riders now have access to several alternate travel solutions. Cross-honoring arrangements are in place for valid fare holders at Hoboken, Secaucus, and New York Penn Station, allowing customers to switch to other regional train services at no extra charge. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail is also cross-honoring at Newport, Exchange Place, and Hoboken stations.

In addition to rail alternatives, ferry service is being offered at a discounted rate of $3 for PATH customers. Riders can travel between Hoboken and Brookfield Place from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., and between Hoboken and Midtown/West 39th Street from 6:55 to 9:35 a.m. and 4:18 to 7:30 p.m. These discounted ferry services offer a convenient, fast alternative for those needing to cross the river during rush hours. The discount ferry program ends at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

To take advantage of these discounted and cross-honoring services, commuters must present a valid fare either through their physical payment card or the virtual cross-honoring pass available via the RidePATH mobile app. Tickets for ferry services can also be purchased through the official app of the ferry provider. The use of digital proof helps streamline access while reducing confusion at boarding points.

Despite the delays, PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center remains active during rush hours, though at the slightly reduced frequency of ten-minute intervals. While repairs continue, no estimated completion time has been publicly confirmed.

These efforts are part of a larger strategy to minimize the impact on thousands of daily commuters. By offering a variety of alternative travel options, agencies aim to maintain efficient and reliable transportation during infrastructure challenges. The cooperation between rail and ferry services helps ease the transition for affected travelers, ensuring continuity and comfort during this temporary inconvenience.

Riders are encouraged to monitor travel updates through official apps and plan ahead as they navigate changes to their regular commute. While disruptions are never ideal, the available cross-honoring and discounted options provide some relief and flexibility for those impacted by the switch repairs at the Hoboken terminal.
