PM Modi Speaks With Zelensky, Reaffirms India’s Support For Peaceful Resolution In Russia-Ukraine War
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday evening, reiterating India’s consistent stance on the urgent need for a peaceful and early resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Mr Modi, stressed that India remains committed to contributing in every possible way to ensure peace in the region.
According to a detailed statement from President Zelenskyy, the discussion covered recent escalations, including Russia’s continued targeting of urban centres and public infrastructure. He cited the recent attack on a bus station in Zaporizhzhia on Sunday, which injured dozens of civilians, as an example of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The two leaders also addressed Ukraine’s exclusion from last Friday’s high-profile ‘peace talks’ in Alaska, attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. The venue choice, Alaska, was notable as it was sold by Moscow to Washington decades ago, adding symbolic weight to the meeting. Zelenskyy expressed concerns that decisions made in his country’s absence could be imposed on Ukraine.
He appealed to India to actively support Kyiv’s peace initiatives and to ensure that any resolution involving Ukraine includes its direct participation. “Everything concerning Ukraine must be decided with our participation,” Zelenskyy stated, urging India’s role in safeguarding his nation’s sovereignty and peace process. The conversation underscores India’s continuing diplomatic engagement in one of the most pressing global conflicts.
