In a dramatic twist following India’s victory in the Asia Cup 2025, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi has finally congratulated Team India but not without controversy. Despite India's win, the trophy remains in Naqvi's Dubai office, with the ACC president refusing to hand it over unless the BCCI organizes an official presentation ceremony in Dubai. This condition has been met with resistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which had earlier written a formal complaint demanding the trophy be sent to the winning team.
In his official letter dated after the September 30 AGM, Naqvi acknowledged the Indian team’s triumph but criticized what he called their lack of sporting conduct during the final. He claimed he waited 40 minutes on the presentation dais to hand over the trophy, but the Indian team refused to participate. Naqvi further labeled the BCCI's complaint as “slanderous and digressing,” asserting that no prior official communication had been received regarding the Indian team’s position on the prize distribution process.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB Chairman, has doubled down, insisting that the trophy will only be handed over in an official Dubai ceremony. While congratulating India in writing, his strongly worded letter suggested that India’s actions lacked the sportsmanship and decorum traditionally expected in international cricket. With the trophy still withheld and tensions rising, the diplomatic standoff has now become a symbolic tug-of-war that extends far beyond the boundary ropes.
