SpaceX $60B Cursor Deal Could Value Indian-Origin Founder at $2.7B

SpaceX’s $60 billion Cursor deal could value each Anysphere co-founder’s estimated stake at about $2.7 billion. However, that figure represents the estimated value of stock, not a confirmed cash payout.

SpaceX agreed on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, to acquire San Francisco-based Anysphere, the company behind the AI coding platform Cursor, in an all-stock transaction. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions.

SpaceX Cursor deal puts focus on Anysphere founders

Forbes estimated after Anysphere’s November 2025 funding round that co-founders Michael Truell, Aman Sanger, Sualeh Asif and Arvid Lunnemark each owned about 4.48% of the company.

Applying that percentage to the $60 billion acquisition value produces an estimated holding of approximately $2.69 billion per founder.

The final value could differ because the consideration will be paid in SpaceX shares, the transaction has not closed and publicly reported ownership estimates may not reflect subsequent changes or deal-specific terms.

Sanger, who comes from an Indian family, and Asif, who is originally from Karachi, Pakistan, met their fellow co-founders while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The group founded Anysphere in 2022. Asif represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 through 2018.

Why Cursor matters to SpaceX

Cursor uses artificial intelligence to help software developers write, edit and review code using natural-language instructions. The acquisition follows an earlier partnership between SpaceX and Cursor that included an option to purchase the company.

The transaction matters because it connects SpaceX’s expanding AI operations with a prominent developer platform. For Anysphere’s founders, it could substantially increase the paper value of their holdings, but their eventual proceeds will depend on SpaceX’s share value and the final closing terms.
