Celeste frozen pizza discontinued in US after 60 years

Celeste frozen pizza discontinued in the US after Conagra Brands ended production of the longtime grocery staple. The company cited portfolio simplification and stronger profit opportunities. Remaining pizzas may still be sold until existing retailer inventory runs out.

Chicago-based Conagra Brands has discontinued Celeste frozen pizza after more than six decades in the American market. Production has stopped, although remaining pizzas may still be available at US grocery stores until existing supplies run out.

Conagra confirms Celeste pizza discontinuation

Conagra President and CEO John Brase discussed the company's decision during its fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings presentation on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

The company said exiting the Celeste business would allow it to redirect resources toward brands with greater scale and growth potential.

A Conagra spokesperson subsequently confirmed to FOX Business that production had ended and that no additional Celeste pizzas would be made once existing inventory was sold.

Why Celeste frozen pizza was discontinued

Conagra is simplifying its product portfolio by reducing stock-keeping units (SKUs), which represent individual products and varieties.

Exiting Celeste reduced first-quarter net sales by approximately 15 basis points, equivalent to 0.15 percentage points. However, the company expects the move to benefit future profit margins.

Brase indicated that Conagra would continue evaluating smaller, less profitable brands while simplifying its manufacturing and distribution operations.

Mama Celeste pizza's Chicago history

The brand originated with Italian immigrants Celeste and Anthony Lizio, who operated a restaurant in Chicago beginning in 1937.

In 1962, the family shifted toward producing pizzas and other Italian foods for local restaurants. Quaker Oats acquired the business in 1969, helping expand Celeste into American supermarkets.

Known for its affordable, convenient frozen pizzas, Celeste became a familiar grocery brand during the following decades.

Will Celeste pizza still be available in US stores?

Shoppers may continue finding Celeste frozen pizzas at participating retailers while remaining inventory lasts. Conagra has not announced plans to restart production.

The discontinuation eliminates a longstanding American frozen-food brand as Conagra concentrates on more profitable product categories.

The company is continuing its broader portfolio review, which could lead to additional product reductions as it seeks to improve operating efficiency.
