Tinley Park opens Harmony Square with plaza, concerts, ice rink and family events
Tinley Park has unveiled a new downtown centerpiece that promises to be a vibrant hub of activity throughout the year. The newly completed Harmony Square, located at 6700 North Street, brings an exciting mix of recreational, cultural, and community-focused features to the heart of the village. Spanning 1.6 acres, the plaza officially opened with a community celebration that featured concerts, food, and entertainment, kicking off what is expected to be a busy calendar of year-round programming.

Harmony Square has been designed as a multi-use public plaza that transforms with the seasons. In the warmer months, it will host live concerts on its outdoor stage, while visitors can relax on the turf lawn or gather around built-in fire pits. During the winter, the area converts into a destination for cold-weather fun with a synthetic ice rink suitable for ice skating and curling. These dynamic features are intended to create a welcoming space for residents and visitors of all ages.

One of the most visually striking elements of the square is the near-replica of the historic Teehan’s Tavern, a Tinley Park landmark originally built in the 1850s. The building and others that line the plaza will serve several purposes, including housing a rooftop bar, providing a backstage area for performers, and offering skate rentals in winter. This blending of old and new reflects the village's commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing the future.

Village officials emphasized the inclusive nature of the venue during the opening celebration. Guests are encouraged to bring small coolers and chairs to events, enhancing the plaza's appeal as a community gathering space. Over the weekend following the grand opening, Harmony Square hosted Tinley Park’s annual Block Party, bringing even more life and energy to the newly launched venue.

The goal of Harmony Square is not just to be a seasonal attraction but a year-round destination for events and gatherings. In addition to concerts and skating, future plans include community movie nights, holiday light displays, seasonal markets, and public performances. With a flexible layout and a central location, the plaza is well-positioned to become a cornerstone of Tinley Park’s downtown revival.

Residents and local businesses alike are optimistic about the potential of Harmony Square to boost foot traffic and create more opportunities for social engagement. The mix of entertainment, recreation, and history has already attracted attention, with many community members praising the village’s investment in a space that celebrates both its past and its evolving identity.

As Tinley Park continues to grow and modernize, Harmony Square offers a tangible expression of what thoughtful urban design and community collaboration can achieve. From concerts to curling, fire pits to film nights, the square is set to become a beloved fixture in the daily lives of residents and a major draw for visitors in every season..
