On July 22, 2025, a significant Sister City Partnership was formed between Dallas, Texas, USA, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, through a signing ceremony led by Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson and Dar es Salaam Mayor Omary Kumbilamoto. This partnership is designed to enhance the commercial, cultural, and educational connections between the two cities, with an eye toward fostering economic growth, trade, and cross-cultural understanding.
The signing ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam, was attended by several high-profile figures, including U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Jonathan Howard and Tanzanian Ambassador to the U.S., Elsie Kanza. Mayor Johnson is currently on an eight-day visit to Tanzania, where he is meeting with local officials and business leaders to explore trade opportunities and strengthen bilateral economic partnerships. During his visit, he is also traveling to Zanzibar and Arusha.
Mayor Johnson is accompanied by representatives from the Tanzanian American Chamber of Commerce (TACC), based in Dallas, which promotes trade relations between the U.S. and Tanzania. The delegation has held successful meetings with key Tanzanian government figures, including the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam and representatives from various ministries, further advancing the collaboration between the two cities.
Dallas, known for its leadership in sectors such as agribusiness, healthcare, energy, tech, logistics, manufacturing, and financial services, serves as a model for how municipal governments can drive economic growth through infrastructure development and business incentives. Dar es Salaam, as a commercial hub and one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, presents a strategic gateway for international trade and investment, creating immense opportunities for job creation and economic prosperity for both cities.
