A historic milestone was achieved for North Andhra as the first aircraft successfully landed at the Bhogapuram Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Vizianagaram district. An Air India flight from Delhi touched down as part of a crucial trial run, signaling that the long-awaited airport is nearing operational readiness. The moment carried strong emotional significance for the region, which has been awaiting a major aviation hub for decades. Onboard the flight were Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, MP Kalisetti, and senior officials, while airport authorities closely monitored the landing to evaluate runway performance, safety systems, and operational preparedness.
Bhogapuram International Airport is being developed as a world-class aviation facility with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The airport features a 3.8-kilometre-long runway capable of supporting both-directional takeoff and landing operations, a key advantage that enhances efficiency and safety. Once fully operational, the airport is expected to handle nearly 300 flight movements per day, significantly improving domestic and international connectivity for North Andhra. With nearly 95 percent of construction already completed, the GMR Group, which is spearheading the project, aims to commence full-scale commercial operations by June, positioning Bhogapuram as a critical gateway for the region.
Beyond aviation, Bhogapuram is being envisioned as a comprehensive economic ecosystem. A massive 500-acre Aero City is taking shape around the airport, featuring five-star hotels, business hubs, and modern commercial spaces to attract global investors and travelers. The project also includes an Aviation Education City to train skilled professionals, along with Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facilities to support aircraft operations. Adding further momentum, an Aero and Defence Manufacturing Park is planned to drive high-end manufacturing and technology-driven industries. Together, these developments are expected to generate thousands of jobs and transform Bhogapuram into one of Andhra Pradesh’s fastest-growing economic hubs. For North Andhra, the first flight landing is more than an aviation milestone—it represents progress, pride, and a long-awaited future finally taking flight.
