A gruesome murder in South Delhi has sent shockwaves across the city after police revealed chilling details about how a former domestic help allegedly killed the 22-year-old daughter of a senior IRS officer and then attempted to use her fingerprints to unlock a biometric locker. The accused, identified as Rahul Meena, was arrested following an intensive manhunt led by multiple teams of Delhi Police.
According to investigators, the victim, an engineering graduate and UPSC aspirant, was alone at home early in the morning when the accused entered the residence. Having previously worked at the house, he was familiar with the family’s routine, the layout of the apartment, and the security systems in place. This knowledge reportedly helped him bypass multiple layers of security without raising suspicion.
Police said the accused went directly to the rooftop study room where the victim was studying. During interrogation, he confessed that he attempted to overpower her, leading to a violent struggle. He allegedly assaulted her with nearby objects, causing severe injuries and rendering her unconscious. Authorities suspect that the crime escalated further, and additional charges are being investigated pending medical confirmation.
After the assault, the accused allegedly dragged the unconscious victim downstairs to access a biometric locker inside the house. Investigators revealed that he tried to use her blood-stained finger to unlock the safe, but the system failed to recognize the fingerprint, possibly due to disrupted blood flow or contamination. He then resorted to forcibly breaking open the locker using tools found at the scene and stole cash and jewellery.
In an attempt to evade detection, the accused changed his clothes inside the house, wearing garments belonging to the victim’s family before fleeing. CCTV footage later captured him exiting the residential complex carrying a backpack.
Delhi Police launched a large-scale operation involving around 15 teams to track the suspect. By analyzing CCTV footage from the housing society and nearby roads, investigators reconstructed his escape route. An autorickshaw driver provided a crucial lead, revealing the location where the suspect had been dropped. Police traced this information to a hotel in Dwarka, where the accused was eventually arrested.
Further investigation also uncovered allegations linking the accused to another serious crime in Rajasthan prior to arriving in Delhi. Authorities are continuing to examine all aspects of the case. The incident has raised serious concerns about residential security, especially involving former employees with prior access and knowledge of household systems. The victim’s family, described as academically accomplished and disciplined, is now seeking justice as the case proceeds through legal channels.
