A 26-year-old technology professional from Telangana died in the United States after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident and later developing a rare brain complication. Nithyanand Reddy Gannu, also known as Nandhu, was from Nirmal district in Telangana and had been living in the US after completing his higher education.
According to a GoFundMe campaign created by his family and friends, Nithyanand was involved in a major accident in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on July 18, 2026. He suffered multiple injuries, including a severe bone fracture, and was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors performed surgery, and his family initially hoped the procedure would begin his recovery.
Rare Brain Complication Developed After Surgery
During treatment, Nithyanand reportedly developed cerebral fat embolism, a rare and potentially fatal condition that can occur after a serious bone fracture. In such cases, fat droplets from bone marrow may enter the bloodstream and travel to vital organs, including the brain.
The fundraiser organisers said the complication affected his brain and caused multiple clots. Despite intensive medical care and efforts by the hospital team, his condition worsened. Nithyanand died on July 22, four days after the accident.
He reportedly completed a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Indiana Tech in 2024. Friends described the sudden loss as devastating for his family and community, who had been hoping for his recovery following the emergency surgery.
Family Seeks Help With Hospital and Repatriation Costs
The GoFundMe campaign was launched to support expenses that were not covered by health insurance. Organisers said the family faced substantial ICU, hospital and related medical costs, along with the expense of transporting Nithyanand’s body from the United States to India.
The appeal received a strong response from friends, members of the Indian community and other donors. By 8:30 AM IST on Sunday, July 26, the campaign had collected more than $67,000.
Fundraiser Draws Support After Telangana Man’s Death
The organisers thanked donors for their prayers, financial contributions and messages of support during the family’s difficult period. They said the money would help manage the outstanding medical bills and repatriation arrangements.
