The Delhi teen murder case came to light on September 13, 2026, when the decomposed body of a 17-year-old girl was discovered near a field in the Swaroop Nagar area of Northwest Delhi. According to police, the alleged assault and killing had taken place several days before the body was found, although the exact date of the crime has not been officially disclosed.
Delhi Police have apprehended four people, including three juveniles, in connection with the case. Investigators said the victim and those accused were known to each other and had been travelling together in a tempo before the alleged crime took place.
Police allege that the girl was sexually assaulted and later killed before her body was left in an open area. By the time it was discovered, it had decomposed significantly, making initial identification difficult.
The victim had not been reported missing by her family. According to police, her relatives said she would sometimes leave home and return after a few days.
Delhi Police investigation traces suspects through CCTV footage
A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
With no apparent eyewitnesses and the identities of those allegedly involved initially unknown, the Delhi Police investigation relied heavily on CCTV footage and technical evidence.
Police teams examined more than 50 CCTV cameras installed around Swaroop Nagar and nearby routes. During the review, investigators noticed a tempo moving close to the area around the relevant time.
The registration number of the vehicle was reportedly not clearly visible because of darkness. Investigators therefore tracked its movement across footage collected from several CCTV locations.
During a search operation conducted on the intervening night of September 15 and 16, 2026, police traced the suspected tempo and identified its driver. He was questioned as part of the investigation, which subsequently led officers to those allegedly linked to the case.
Three juveniles apprehended in Swaroop Nagar crime case
Police said four people were eventually apprehended, including one adult and three juveniles.
The adult accused has been identified by police as Shivam, also known as Sudama and Chuchu, a resident of Khadda Colony. The three juveniles are aged 16 and 17.
Investigators also recovered two knives allegedly used in the crime, clothes believed to have been worn by those accused and the tempo allegedly connected to the incident.
Police are now working to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the alleged role of each person apprehended.
Forensic evidence, CCTV footage, recovered items and other technical material are being examined as part of the continuing investigation.
Authorities have said that further investigation is underway. The allegations against those apprehended remain subject to investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
