Jamui police arrest three suspects
Three people have been arrested in Bihar’s Jamui district after a disturbing video allegedly showing the harassment of two Class 10 students circulated widely on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7 pm on Saturday. The boy and girl, who study at a private school in Jamui town, had reportedly stepped out on a scooter after attending coaching classes.
According to reports, they were travelling along the Jamui-Lakhisarai road when they were stopped by a group of people. The video that later surfaced online appears to show the teenagers surrounded and prevented from leaving freely.
One person can be seen holding the boy by his shirt and pulling him away, while another individual allegedly follows the girl as she tries to move away. The girl is heard protesting and asking the group to let her go.
The boy later manages to reach his friend, and both try to move towards their scooter. However, the group reportedly continues to follow them and attempts to stop them from leaving.
The video sparked widespread concern after social media users tagged Bihar Police and demanded immediate action.
Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Dayal said police contacted the teenagers and began examining the video to identify those involved. Three people were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
Viral video sparks police action
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and examining whether other individuals were involved. Investigators are also expected to study the video, witness statements and other evidence before deciding on further legal action.
The case has drawn particular attention because both students are reported to be minors. This has led to demands that authorities examine applicable provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant laws.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the incident and called for strict action against those responsible. He also raised concerns about the safety of girls in public spaces.
Bihar minister Sunil Kumar also described the incident as condemnable and said the local administration would take appropriate action. He added that those found responsible should face legal proceedings while cautioning against using a single incident to describe the law-and-order situation across the state.
The Jamui teen harassment case has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of minors in public places and the growing role of viral videos in bringing alleged crimes to the attention of authorities.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further action may follow if additional suspects are identified or new evidence emerges.
