The discord between Shinde Sena and BJP had first surfaced over the appointment of the Raigad Guardian Minister. Last month, Devendra Fadnavis selected NCP’s Sunil Tatkare for the position, ignoring Shinde’s demand for a Shiv Sena leader to be assigned the role. This decision led to frustration within the Shinde faction, as they already felt sidelined, especially after Shinde was denied the Chief Minister's post. The appointment of Tatkare only deepened the cracks within the alliance, eventually forcing the BJP to put the decision on hold in an attempt to pacify Shinde.
Recent developments suggest that Eknath Shinde has been creating distance between himself and Devendra Fadnavis. Last month, Shinde was notably absent from a crucial Nashik Metropolitan Regional Development Authority meeting chaired by Fadnavis. Additionally, he skipped the inauguration ceremony of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, reinforcing speculation that the tensions between the two leaders are reaching a breaking point. With these ongoing disputes, the removal of Y-security cover is likely to further destabilize the Mahayuti alliance. Many political observers see this as more than just an administrative decision, instead viewing it as a potential indication of a larger realignment within Maharashtra politics. Whether this move is a calculated political strategy or a sign of shifting power dynamics within the BJP-Shinde alliance remains to be seen in the coming weeks.
