BJP Likely To Announce New National President Before Bihar Polls, Says Sources

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to appoint a new National President ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. According to sources, the announcement is expected soon, with the party determined to contest the crucial polls under fresh leadership at the central level.

The selection process has been prolonged due to multiple factors. Extensive consultations were carried out, with over 100 senior leaders including former party chiefs, Union Ministers, and prominent RSS functionaries providing their inputs. This wide-ranging dialogue reflects the significance of the decision for the BJP’s organizational future.

Another major reason for the delay is the upcoming September 9 vice-presidential election, triggered by Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation. The BJP is focused on ensuring a decisive victory for its candidate, Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan.

Additionally, the party is finalizing elections for key state units, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Karnataka. According to the BJP Constitution, at least 19 of 36 state and union territory units must have elected presidents before a new national chief can be named. The party has already completed this process in 28 states, while Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Manipur remain. In Punjab, a working president has been temporarily appointed.

Leadership Transition And Future Plans

JP Nadda, who has served as BJP National President since 2020, received two extensions first to steer the party through the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and later for organizational restructuring. His successor is likely to be named once the state unit leadership is consolidated.

The BJP has also tightened eligibility norms for future organizational roles. Mandal chiefs must now be under 40, ensuring younger leadership at the grassroots. For district and state presidents, a minimum of ten years of active membership is required, aimed at addressing dissatisfaction among long-time party workers. The upcoming announcement is expected to shape BJP’s strategy not just for Bihar but also for upcoming state and national battles, reinforcing its internal discipline and preparing it for the next electoral cycle.
