US–Israel–Iran War | US military losses near $2 billion after Iranian strikes in early days of conflict

The United States has reportedly suffered nearly $2 billion in military equipment losses during the first four days of escalating hostilities with Iran following a joint US–Israel military campaign. Data compiled from defence assessments and open-source intelligence indicates that multiple American installations across the Middle East were damaged in retaliatory strikes launched by Tehran after the operation that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

One of the most significant losses occurred at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, where an Iranian missile strike destroyed an AN/FPS-132 early warning radar system valued at approximately $1.1 billion. Qatari authorities later confirmed the damage to the strategic installation, which plays a critical role in regional missile detection and defence coordination. The strike marked one of the most costly single losses of US military hardware during the opening phase of the confrontation.

Additional setbacks were reported in Kuwait and Bahrain. In Kuwait, three F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were destroyed in a friendly fire incident involving local air defence systems. Although the six crew members aboard the aircraft managed to eject safely and were rescued, the loss of the aircraft is estimated to be worth around $282 million. Meanwhile, Iranian missiles targeted the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama, Bahrain, damaging several large structures and destroying two AN/GSC-52B satellite communications terminals, with losses estimated at roughly $20 million.

Iran has also claimed responsibility for the destruction of an AN/TPY-2 radar system in Al-Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates. The radar, a key component of the US THAAD anti-ballistic missile defence network, is valued at approximately $500 million. Satellite imagery and open-source intelligence analysts have indicated visible damage at the site consistent with a direct strike, bringing the estimated total value of US military assets damaged during the first four days of the conflict to around $1.9 billion.

According to reports, Iran’s retaliatory strikes have targeted several US military facilities across the region, including bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Installations affected include Camp Arifjan, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Camp Buehring, Erbil Air Base and Jebel Ali Port, which serves as one of the US Navy’s busiest regional logistics hubs. US diplomatic facilities have also come under pressure, with drone strikes reported against the American embassy compound in Riyadh.

Regional leaders have expressed growing concern over the widening crisis. United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan criticised the missile strikes on neighbouring countries and urged Iran to avoid actions that could further destabilise the region. Officials in the UAE have emphasised that Tehran should refrain from targeting states that are not directly involved in the conflict.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has publicly vowed retaliation following the killing of the country’s supreme leader, warning that attacks on American assets will continue. Analysts say the situation has heightened tensions across the Gulf region, raising fears of broader instability as diplomatic and military responses continue to unfold.
