New Delhi, June 5, 2026: A major fire broke out early Friday morning at the Tata Communications office building in Nehru Place, South Delhi, triggering a significant response from emergency services. The blaze was successfully brought under control and no office workers were hurt.

The fire was first spotted at around 2:47 am in the battery room on the third floor of a five‑storey commercial building opposite Savitri Cinema. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received multiple distress calls and dispatched several fire engines within minutes.

Fire crews battled the flames for several hours, managing to contain and control the fire by about 7 am. After the main blaze was doused, teams continued cooling operations to make sure there was no re‑ignition.

While no civilians or office staff were injured, two firefighters suffered minor burn injuries to their hands during rescue efforts. They were taken to Safdarjung Hospital and are in stable condition after receiving treatment.

Preliminary reports from officials say the fire was restricted to the battery storage area, which is estimated to be around 200 square feet in size. The exact cause is still under investigation, as fire officials inspect the scene and review safety systems in the building.

The entire building was evacuated as a precaution, and normalcy has since been restored at the site. Nehru Place, one of Delhi’s busiest commercial hubs known for IT offices and tech enterprises, was briefly affected by the emergency response but reopened for business after safety checks.

Officials emphasized the importance of regular fire risk assessments and proper safety equipment in office buildings with high electrical loads. They also thanked the DFS teams for their quick and coordinated actions, which likely prevented greater damage or loss of life.
