NIOS bridge course focuses on primary teacher education
The Education Ministry has introduced a six-month certificate bridge course in Primary Teacher Education for in-service primary teachers who were appointed with BEd qualifications. The programme is being offered by the National Institute of Open Schooling and is aimed at strengthening the professional skills needed for teaching at the primary level.
The course places strong emphasis on primary-stage pedagogy and classroom effectiveness. According to the official information cited in the report, teachers will receive academic learning, online contact classes and 20 days of school-based experience. The programme is intended to help teachers understand the learning needs of young children and use more suitable teaching methods in everyday classrooms.
Another major focus is inclusive and child-centred teaching. Teachers will be trained in developmentally appropriate practices that support students from different socio-cultural backgrounds. The BEd teacher bridge course will be delivered through Open and Distance Learning mode, making it easier for working teachers to continue their regular school responsibilities while completing the programme. Digital learning is another important part of the programme. Video tutorials, e-learning materials and online platforms will be used to give teachers more flexibility in completing the course.
