Despite already securing their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title, PSG showcased their determination to finish the season undefeated, even as they rest key players ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash against Arsenal.
PSG took the lead through a superb first-half goal by Vitinha, who struck a clean half-volley inside the penalty box shortly after the 30-minute mark. The league leaders dominated possession and came close to extending their lead, with Joao Neves denied by a sharp save from Nantes goalkeeper Patrik Carlgren. However, the home side remained resilient and stunned the champions with a late equalizer. In the 84th minute, Douglas Augusto found the net after a dynamic run by Matthis Abline, leveling the match and earning Nantes a crucial point in their fight against relegation. PSG nearly snatched a win in the final moments when Goncalo Ramos, coming off the bench, connected with a cross from Desire Doue, only to see his header cannon off the crossbar. This result means PSG remain unbeaten against domestic opponents since May 2024, and are now only four matches away from completing a full Ligue 1 campaign without a single loss—a feat never before achieved in the French top flight. The closest any team has come was Nantes in the 1994–95 season, who went 32 games unbeaten before suffering their only defeat en route to the title.
The draw also saw PSG break the European record for the most consecutive away matches without defeat in a domestic league. Their 39-game streak surpasses AC Milan's record of 38 games, set between 1991 and 1993 in Serie A “Today is a special day for us, beating AC Milan's record. I congratulate my players for that,” said PSG manager Luis Enrique, reflecting on the historic significance of the match. Enrique made several squad rotations, resting key players like Achraf Hakimi and introducing youth and bench players such as Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue. The match was originally scheduled for mid-April but was postponed to accommodate PSG’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Aston Villa.
Nantes coach Antoine Kombouare praised his team’s display. “I am proud because I didn’t expect such a performance from my players. We didn’t just defend well but also played good football and created chances. We never let our heads go down. It is a really well-deserved point,” he said, calling PSG’s away streak "monstrous." With the draw, Nantes now sit four points above the relegation zone with four matches left in the season, three of which will be at home—offering them a strong chance to secure their Ligue 1 status.
PSG, meanwhile, shift focus back to Europe. They will face Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals next Tuesday in London, but before that, they are set to host Nice in another Ligue 1 match on Friday.
