Indian Olympic silver medalist Neeraj Chopra is set to headline the men’s javelin event at the Paris Diamond League on June 20, marking his highly anticipated return to the French capital. Chopra, who recently broke the elusive 90-metre barrier with a 90.23m throw in Doha, will compete alongside a stacked field of elite throwers including Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters and Germany’s Julian Weber, who has already beaten Chopra twice this season.
This is Chopra’s first appearance at the Stade Charlety since 2017, where he placed fifth as a junior. Now at the peak of his career and a double Olympic medalist, he enters the meet with the momentum of strong performances but without a win in the 2025 Diamond League season so far.
The men’s javelin start list also features former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott, Kenya’s Julius Yego, Moldova’s Andrian Mardare, and Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva. Among them, Weber and Peters are the only athletes with personal bests exceeding Chopra’s, setting the stage for a tight and competitive showdown.
With the Paris Olympics approaching, this Diamond League stop is crucial for Chopra’s preparations. The Indian star will also compete at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava on June 24, before returning home to host and participate in the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5.
The Paris leg is expected to deliver top-tier javelin action, with five athletes already having crossed the 90-metre mark in their careers. Fans and analysts alike are closely watching how Chopra fares in what is shaping up to be one of the season’s standout field events.
