Kejriwal's Nobel Prize Remark Sparks BJP-AAP War of Words

Arvind Kejriwal, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader, sparked a fresh political storm after declaring that he deserves a Nobel Prize for governance. Speaking at the launch of the Punjabi edition of the book The Kejriwal Model in Chandigarh, Kejriwal said his administration achieved success despite consistent interference from Delhi's lieutenant governor and central authorities. “Despite being stopped from working, we performed,” he said, adding that his government delivered on promises and curbed corruption.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) immediately ridiculed the remark. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva called Kejriwal’s statement “laughable,” sarcastically stating that he might qualify for a Nobel in “corruption, incompetence, and anarchy.” Sachdeva referenced multiple controversies during Kejriwal’s tenure including the liquor licensing scam, “sheesh mahal” CM residence renovation, and irregularities in bus panic buttons and classroom projects.

The Aam Aadmi Party hit back strongly. Senior leader Saurabh Bharadwaj responded by telling the BJP to focus on actual governance rather than personal attacks. “It’s time to deliver, not just speak. Delhi is waiting for results,” he said, criticizing the BJP-led administration’s alleged inability to maintain public services since AAP's exit from power in September 2024.

Kejriwal defended his governance model, asserting it was based on transparency, honesty, and fiscal responsibility. He highlighted achievements in public healthcare, education, and utility subsidies as proof of effective governance without financial misuse. He claimed the public now misses AAP’s administration due to visible deterioration under BJP rule. The war of words has reignited debate over Kejriwal's legacy and the ongoing power struggle in Delhi politics. As both parties trade barbs, the issue has added fuel to an already heated political climate ahead of upcoming civic and legislative contests.
