A 38-year-old woman doctor from Hyderabad died by suicide inside her flat after experiencing emotional distress over the rejection of her US visa application. The tragic incident came to light on Saturday morning when her domestic help alerted the family after repeated knocks at the door went unanswered. The family broke into the flat only to find her lifeless. A suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly mentioned that she had been battling deep disappointment and depression ever since her visa application was declined.
The police have registered a case and begun investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Initial forensic observations suggest that she may have consumed an overdose of sleeping pills or injected herself on Friday night. Authorities conducted a post-mortem and later handed over her body to her family. While the exact cause of death will be confirmed in the detailed report, officials have stated that her mental state appeared significantly affected in recent weeks.
Her mother, Lakshmi, revealed that her daughter, identified as Rohini, had completed her MBBS degree in Kyrgyzstan between 2005 and 2010 and had an excellent academic record. Rohini had long aspired to specialise in Internal Medicine in the United States, drawn by better professional opportunities, higher pay, and comparatively fewer patients. Despite her mother advising her to continue practising in India, Rohini remained focused on pursuing her American dream.
According to the family, her anxiety and sadness had grown noticeably as she waited for visa approval. The eventual rejection only deepened her distress, leaving her mentally drained and isolated. Her mother added that Rohini was extremely dedicated to her profession and remained unmarried, devoting most of her life to her medical career. The incident has sparked conversations about the emotional toll faced by professionals striving for global opportunities and the importance of mental health awareness and support.
