Ilaiyaraaja thanked Victorian Finance Minister Enver Erdogan MP and members of the Australian Parliament for the recognition. He also paid tribute to the artists who worked alongside him and the generations of listeners who embraced his compositions.
The honour marks a milestone in a career that has connected film audiences across languages and decades. It comes during Ilaiyaraaja’s golden jubilee concert tour, which began in July and has included performances in North America. His upcoming Australian concerts are scheduled for Sydney on September 26 and Brisbane on October 5.
The recognition follows a tribute by the Tamil Nadu government in September 2025 celebrating Ilaiyaraaja’s five decades in cinema. His music also features in the Marathi thriller Gondhal, which has been selected as India’s entry for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
Fans will hear his work again in Dorothy, directed by Karthik Subbaraj and scheduled for theatrical release on September 25. For Ilaiyaraaja, the Australian ceremony is another moment in a year devoted to celebrating the music and collaborations that shaped his career.
