Rajinikanth has said that, despite decades of cinematic success, he still identifies with the bus conductor he was before entering films. Speaking at the Jailer 2 Super Show, the actor recalled his working life in Bengaluru and described those memories as deeply personal. Rajinikanth said he enjoyed acting but loved his conductor job even more. He remembered the five years he spent in that role with affection and admitted that he continues to miss that period.
The superstar also explained that occasional visits to Bengaluru help him reconnect with his earlier life. Seeing a familiar bus brings him happiness, while the sight of a khaki uniform can make him emotional. His remarks highlighted the lasting connection he feels to his beginnings, even after becoming one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable figures.
Fans Receive Credit for His Film Career at 75
Rajinikanth also addressed questions about continuing to play leading roles at 75. He credited the affection of Tamil audiences and his fans for sustaining his career and encouraging filmmakers to collaborate with him.
The actor said their support gives production houses the confidence to back his films and enables creative partnerships with directors such as Nelson Dilipkumar. Expressing gratitude, he acknowledged that he did not know how to repay the love he receives.
Nelson, who directs Jailer 2, also spoke about Rajinikanth’s conduct on film sets. He praised the actor for arriving with a small entourage and maintaining an easygoing relationship with those around him.
Balachander Lessons Continue to Shape His Acting
Reflecting on his mentor K Balachander, Rajinikanth said an actor’s preparation should continue beyond the hours spent on set. Once committed to a film, he explained, performers should keep thinking about their characters and the choices they make.
He recalled that Balachander expected both him and Kamal Haasan to approach their roles thoughtfully. The filmmaker’s guidance helped establish the discipline and sustained attention Rajinikanth associates with immersing himself in a character. The actor also encouraged a positive outlook, saying that thoughts influence how people experience their daily lives.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 follows the successful 2023 film Jailer. Alongside anticipation for the sequel, Rajinikanth’s speech offered a personal reflection on the memories, mentorship and audience support that continue to define his relationship with cinema.
