Sangeetha divorce update: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s wife has withdrawn her divorce petition before the Chengalpattu family court. She joined the hearing by video conference, after which the court closed the case as withdrawn, according to PTI.
Court Allows Sangeetha to Withdraw Plea
Sangeetha appeared before the Chengalpattu family court through video conferencing on Friday, August 7, 2026, when the matter came up for hearing. According to PTI, she informed the court that she did not want to pursue the divorce proceedings and submitted her reasons for withdrawing the case. Official court sources cited by the agency said the court then disposed of the petition as withdrawn.
Hearing Held Through Video Conference
The latest hearing marked a significant turn in a case that had drawn attention because of Vijay’s film career and political position. Reports said Sangeetha participated remotely, while the respondent’s counsel did not object to the withdrawal request. The court consequently accepted her plea and closed the proceedings. Neither Vijay nor Sangeetha had appeared during the earlier hearings on April 20 and June 15.
Case Closure Ends Current Proceedings
The withdrawal means the divorce petition filed earlier this year will not move forward in its present form. It does not, however, establish whether the couple has reconciled or whether any separate legal step may follow. No public statement from Vijay or Sangeetha explaining the broader status of their marriage was available at the time of reporting. February Filing Included Serious Allegations
Sangeetha filed the divorce petition in February 2026 under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, seeking dissolution of the marriage. Earlier reports on the filing said she alleged infidelity, mental cruelty, neglect and desertion. These were allegations contained in the petition and were not judicial findings. The February filing also reportedly sought permanent alimony and the right to continue residing at the couple’s Neelankarai home.
Marriage Has Lasted More Than Two Decades
Vijay and Sangeetha have been married for more than two decades. Earlier reporting on the petition said their marriage was registered in the United Kingdom in 1998, followed by a Hindu wedding ceremony in Chennai in August 1999. The latest court development closes the current divorce proceedings, but neither side has publicly detailed what led to Sangeetha’s decision to withdraw the petition.
