Stormy Weather in Houston May Last Through Friday

Thunderstorms sweeping across the Houston area are expected to persist until at least Friday, bringing multiple rounds of heavy rainfall, hail, and potential flooding. The slow-moving weather system has already delivered up to 3–4 inches of rain in some parts of the region between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Harris County Flood Warning System.

Meteorologist Hayley Adams with the National Weather Service’s Houston/Galveston office noted that while a brief pause in activity was expected Wednesday afternoon, storm conditions could quickly return later in the evening and into Thursday.

“Depending on how worked over the environment is from these storms, we may not see as much activity as we're anticipating this afternoon,” Adams explained. “However, we may be able to get to a point where we destabilize and have some stronger thunderstorms later this afternoon and tonight.” Flood advisories were issued Wednesday for both Harris and Galveston counties, with concerns heightened by the storm system’s slow progress across the region. Small hail was reported Wednesday morning and may appear again through early Thursday.

The National Weather Service urges residents to stay cautious, particularly on roadways. “If you encounter any flooded roadways, turn around, don't drown,” Adams warned. Drivers are advised to avoid low-lying areas and monitor local alerts for updates. Despite the turbulent midweek weather, the forecast looks more favorable for the weekend. The NWS anticipates partly sunny skies and minimal rain for Houston by Saturday, offering residents a much-needed break from the storms.
