Pune Bridge Collapse: 2 Dead, Several Missing After Indrayani River Bridge Gives Way in Maval

A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon in Pune’s Maval tehsil, where an iron bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed near the popular monsoon tourist spot Kundmala. The collapse, which occurred amid rising river levels following days of rainfall, resulted in the death of at least two individuals, with several others feared missing. Reports suggest that 15 to 20 people were on the bridge at the time, many of whom were swept away as the structure suddenly gave way. So far, eight people have been rescued, while two women remain trapped under debris, prompting an all-out emergency response.

Rescue efforts by the NDRF, fire brigade, and local police continue amid difficult conditions. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the media, confirming injuries and ongoing search efforts, though he withheld final casualty figures until full information is available. Despite the bridge being renovated 4–5 years ago, residents had raised concerns about its safety—warnings that many tourists were unaware of. The collapse comes during an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Pune and surrounding regions, intensifying the urgency of the search and rescue operation.
