Listeria Contamination Warning: FDA Recalls 60 Pastry Products Across the U.S.

FDA Issues Major Recall for Over 2 Million Baked Goods Due to Listeria Contamination
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a significant recall involving more than 2 million baked goods due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects 60 different products, including doughnuts, fritters, paczki, eclairs, and munchkins, which were manufactured by FGF Brands before December 13, 2024. Some of these items were sold at Dunkin' locations across the United States and Canada.

Recall Upgraded to Class II
Initially announced on January 7, 2025, the recall was escalated to a Class II designation on February 5. This classification indicates that while the health risks are considered moderate, consuming the affected products could still cause temporary or medically reversible health complications.

Why Listeria is a Serious Concern
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterial pathogen that can cause listeriosis, a severe infection that is particularly dangerous for certain groups:

  • Pregnant women, as it can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious infection in newborns
  • Older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems, who are at higher risk of severe illness
  • Newborns and infants, who may experience life-threatening complications

Symptoms of Listeria Infection
Individuals who have consumed contaminated products may experience the following symptoms:

  • Fever and chills
  • Muscle aches and fatigue
  • Headache and stiff neck
  • Confusion, dizziness, and loss of balance
  • Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal issues
  • In severe cases, the infection can lead to life-threatening conditions such as meningitis or sepsis

What You Should Do
Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products should take the following steps:

  • Do not consume the affected items
  • Dispose of them safely to prevent accidental ingestion
  • Contact FGF Brands for further guidance on refunds or additional information
