Kyoto, a city that beautifully blends history with modernity, has just unveiled one of its most unique attractions the Future Train Restaurant. Built on an abandoned elevated railway line in the Umekoji district, this vibrant dining spot transforms three upcycled train carriages into a creative hub of food, art, and nostalgia. Designed by Sebastian Masuda, a celebrated Japanese artist known for his colorful “kawaii” world, the project is being hailed as Japan’s first restaurant built on an abandoned railway track.
The restaurant officially soft-opened this week and is already trending for its eye-catching pink interiors, Instagram-worthy food, and immersive dining journey. Visitors enter through a ticket gate styled as a train station entrance and are guided onto a platform, where their dining “journey to the future” begins.
