Neon Raccoon food truck brings smashburgers to Columbus

The Neon Raccoon food truck has launched in central Ohio, serving made-from-scratch smashburgers, smoked wings, grilled cheese and fries. The Westerville-based business now makes recurring stops in Powell and downtown Columbus while booking private events.

A new central Ohio food truck is bringing smashburgers, smoked chicken wings and loaded grilled cheese sandwiches to customers across the Columbus area.

Westerville couple launches Neon Raccoon

Westerville residents Wes and Kylee Murphy launched The Neon Raccoon in June, combining their food-service backgrounds in a mobile restaurant focused on freshly prepared comfort food.

Wes is a self-taught chef who has worked in restaurant kitchens, including Northstar Café, while Kylee brings food-service management experience to the business. The truck serves public stops as well as breweries, weddings, corporate gatherings and other private events throughout central Ohio.

Regular Columbus and Powell food truck stops

The Neon Raccoon is scheduled at Nocterra Brewing in Powell every Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. It also serves customers at Mainline Bar + Courtyard in downtown Columbus on the first Sunday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m.

Additional locations and schedule changes are posted through StreetFoodFinder and the truck’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Smashburgers and smoked wings lead the menu

The menu includes three double-patty smashburgers with toppings such as grilled onions, cheese and jalapeño crisps. Several dishes feature the truck’s signature feral sauce, a garlic confit aioli mixed with a proprietary spice blend.

Chicken wings are smoked and fried, then served with sauces including smoked peach barbecue and spicy garlic. Other menu items include fresh-cut fries and Ritz crackers paired with pimento cheese.

Made-from-scratch comfort food

Grilled cheese choices range from a traditional sandwich to a loaded version with caramelized onions, bacon jam and feral sauce. The owners say they grind brisket and chuck in-house, cut fries daily and prepare their sauces from scratch.

The couple is continuing to build the business through recurring venue partnerships, community appearances and private catering. Customers can follow the truck’s online schedule as additional central Ohio stops and events are announced.
