The nonprofit organization Connected Horse is hosting its annual "Lassos with Love" fundraiser in Pleasanton on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Five Star Equestrian Center. This special event is designed to support equine-assisted therapy for dementia patients and their caregivers, an initiative that has shown profound benefits in reducing anxiety, depression, and PTSD, while boosting self-esteem, trust, and emotional regulation.
The fundraiser will feature a live performance by Kansas Carradine, an equestrian performer and the niece of actor Keith Carradine. Guests will have the chance to meet and interact with horses, enjoy al fresco dining, and participate in both a silent and live auction. Additionally, the event will showcase inspiring testimonies from Carla Preyer, a caregiver featured in the documentary Facing the Wind, and long-time participants Tammy and Paul Maida, who will receive the 2025 Impact Award for their dedication to the program.
The funds raised during the event will support 18 weeks of free workshops in Pleasanton, Calistoga, and other barns across California, as well as scholarships for training at partner barns nationwide. The event also helps sustain the Barn at Community outreach program, providing equine therapy to families facing the challenges of dementia.
