Deadly Ohio Intersection Finally Gets Safety Upgrade

A dangerous central Ohio intersection linked to more than 40 crashes in five years will soon become a four-way stop after a fatal accident renewed pressure on local officials.

County commissioners approved the traffic change this week for the intersection of County Road 24 and County Road 228 near the border of Ohio counties of Morrow and Delaware, an area residents have repeatedly described as one of the region’s most hazardous rural crossroads.

Years of Crashes Sparked Community Outrage

Residents first raised public concerns in September 2025, warning that poor visibility and fast-moving traffic were creating constant danger. Since then, additional crashes continued to occur, including a deadly collision in April 2026 that intensified calls for immediate action.

“We see wrecks every two or three weeks,” resident Donna Mitchell said, describing the repeated emergency responses near the intersection.

Another nearby resident said traffic conditions often worsen during school schedule changes and summer travel periods, increasing risks for local drivers.

Previous Safety Measures Failed

Officials had already attempted smaller fixes, including LED warning lights, tree trimming and extra stop signs. But Morrow County Engineer Bart Dennison said the intersection remained the county’s most dangerous roadway crossing despite those upgrades.

Local leaders ultimately approved the four-way stop after determining stronger traffic controls were necessary to reduce crash risks and improve driver compliance.

The new traffic configuration is expected to be installed as part of broader central Ohio road safety improvements aimed at preventing future fatalities on dangerous rural intersections.

Officials said the change is designed to slow traffic, improve visibility and reduce the likelihood of high-speed collisions that have plagued the area for years.
