Pawan Kalyan Sends Strong Warning
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has issued a firm warning against the misuse of social media for personal attacks, vulgar abuse and organized defamation campaigns. His remarks came after Andhra Pradesh police made two arrests in the last 24 hours over alleged abusive and derogatory comments targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.
While opposition voices have described the arrests as politically motivated, the government side is projecting the action as part of a larger effort to curb online abuse. Pawan Kalyan made it clear that freedom of speech cannot be used as a shield for obscene language, targeted harassment or attacks on the dignity of individuals and their families.
Freedom Of Speech Has Limits
Speaking in an intense press meet, the Janasena chief said that public criticism and political debate are acceptable in a democracy, but character assassination and vulgar campaigns cannot be defended in the name of free expression. He said some groups are using social media as a weapon to damage reputations and spread abusive content against public figures.
Pawan Kalyan also expressed emotional pain over the online abuse faced by his family members. He said such attacks have caused deep distress and added that if leaders and their families can be targeted in this manner, ordinary citizens are even more vulnerable to online harassment. He stressed that protecting dignity on digital platforms has become an urgent responsibility for the government.
New Grievance Cell For Victims
In a key announcement, Pawan Kalyan said a dedicated grievance cell will be set up in the Deputy Chief Minister’s office to receive complaints related to social media abuse and cyberbullying. He urged victims to come forward with clear evidence, including screenshots, links and other digital proof, so that proper action can be initiated.
He also made it clear that those involved in criminal activity cannot take shelter behind caste, religion or political identity. According to him, criminals have no caste, no religion and no political party once they cross the legal line. His statement is being seen as a direct warning to those who allegedly run abusive campaigns while later claiming political victimhood.
Govt Eyes Tougher Action
Pawan Kalyan indicated that the government may consider stricter and more specialized laws in the future to deal with online threats, abusive content and organized digital harassment. His remarks signal that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh is preparing for a tougher approach against social media misuse.
The issue has gained attention because anonymous handles, politically motivated accounts, self-styled journalists and some YouTube-based commentators have increasingly been accused of spreading unverified claims and using objectionable language against leaders. The government believes that criticism is acceptable, but deliberate abuse, vulgar content and defamatory campaigns must face legal consequences.
With this strong statement, Pawan Kalyan has sent a clear message that the government will no longer remain silent on online abuse. The proposed grievance cell is expected to become a direct support system for victims, while the police action has already sparked a wider debate on where free speech ends and digital harassment begins.
