Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the inaugural session of the Rising North East Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, declared the Northeast region of India as the most diverse and dynamic contributor to the nation’s development. Highlighting its multifaceted significance, he stated that from trade and tradition to textiles and tourism, Northeast India exemplifies true diversity and strength within the country.
The two-day summit, held on May 23rd and 24th, aims to attract both international and domestic investors by showcasing the Northeast as a land of opportunity, rich in resources and cultural wealth. PM Modi emphasized that the region is not just a geographical asset, but a strategic cornerstone in India’s mission to become a developed nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
PM Modi elaborated on the specific strengths of the Northeast, positioning it as a hub of both economic potential and natural richness. He outlined that the region embodies bio-economy and bamboo-based industries, is a significant player in India’s tea and petroleum production, and boasts capabilities in sports and skill development. The Prime Minister highlighted the area’s potential as a growing center for eco-tourism and organic farming, further calling it a powerhouse of energy due to its abundant natural resources.
Referring to the spiritual and cultural symbolism, PM Modi described the Northeast as Ashtalakshmi invoking the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity to illustrate the blessings and potential each of the eight northeastern states carries. He added that each state is declaring readiness for investment, leadership, and rapid development.
Emphasizing the national strategic importance, PM Modi underlined that Eastern India plays a pivotal role in India's path toward becoming a developed country, with the Northeast being the most critical part of this transformation. For the government, the term EAST goes beyond a compass direction; it symbolizes the mission to Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform the region.
By placing such focus on this region, the Prime Minister is calling on investors, policymakers, and citizens to recognize the untapped economic potential and cultural richness that the Northeast offers.
